Xbox Series X Disc Drive Repair

Professional Xbox Series X disc drive repair from StanTechFix in Peterborough, with local drop-off by appointment and UK-wide mail-in repair available.

This service covers mechanical disc drive faults, failed laser assemblies and consoles that won’t correctly load, read or eject discs.

This service is only compatible with Xbox Series X consoles originally manufactured with a disc drive. It isn’t suitable for the Xbox Series S or Xbox Series X Digital Edition.

Critical Logic Board Warning

The original Xbox Series X disc drive logic board is electronically paired to the console’s motherboard.

The original paired logic board must remain with the console and must be reused during the repair. A complete replacement disc drive cannot simply be installed with a different logic board.

If another disc drive has been installed without transferring the original paired board, the console may display an E100 system error.

An E100 error caused by a mismatched disc drive cannot be resolved through software updates, factory resets or another replacement drive. If the original paired logic board has been lost or discarded, the console is effectively bricked and StanTechFix cannot repair it.

Please contact us before ordering if the disc drive has previously been replaced, removed or worked on.

Common Symptoms

  • Xbox game discs aren’t recognised

  • Blu-ray or DVD discs won’t play

  • Drive accepts a disc but doesn’t spin it

  • Disc repeatedly starts and stops

  • Grinding, clicking or unusual drive noises

  • Disc won’t insert or eject

  • Disc is stuck inside the console

  • Drive mechanism is damaged or misaligned

  • Console only reads discs intermittently

Before booking, test several known-working, undamaged discs. A problem affecting only one disc usually indicates damaged media rather than a console fault.

What This Service Includes

  • Inspection and diagnosis of the disc drive fault

  • Full console and disc drive disassembly

  • Inspection of the original paired logic board

  • Original logic board retained and reused

  • Laser, spindle motor and loading mechanism inspected

  • Faulty mechanical or optical components repaired or replaced

  • Disc drive cleaned and correctly aligned

  • Internal console dust removal

  • Fresh thermal paste

  • Reassembly and functional testing

  • Disc loading, reading and eject testing using compatible media

Previous Repairs and Missing Parts

If the disc drive has previously been replaced, we must receive the console’s original paired logic board.

If you still have the original drive or logic board, include every original component with the console. Protect any loose circuit boards in appropriate anti-static packaging.

If the original board is present but damaged, additional board-level repair may be possible. This isn’t included in the standard disc drive repair price and will require inspection and a separate quotation.

If the original paired board is missing, we won’t be able to complete the repair.

Important Diagnostic Information

Not every disc-reading problem is caused by the laser. Faults can also involve the loading mechanism, spindle motor, sensors, cabling, drive logic board or motherboard communication.

We will identify the faulty area before replacing components. If the problem requires work outside the standard service, we will explain our findings and provide a quotation.

No additional chargeable work will be carried out without your approval.

Pricing

Xbox Series X disc drive repair: £100

The price covers diagnosis, console disassembly, repair or replacement of standard mechanical and optical drive components, retention of the original paired logic board, internal servicing, reassembly and testing.

A console with a missing original paired logic board or an E100 error caused by a mismatched drive cannot be repaired under this service.

The warranty doesn’t cover damaged discs, new physical damage, liquid damage, foreign objects inserted into the drive, customer tampering, software faults or unrelated motherboard and logic-board faults.
