Xbox Series X|S Overheating Service & Diagnosis

Professional Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S overheating service from StanTechFix in Peterborough, with local drop-off by appointment and UK-wide mail-in service available.

This is an initial cooling-system service and diagnostic step. It is not a guaranteed fix for a console that shuts down.

Cleaning the cooling system and renewing the thermal paste may resolve problems caused by dust buildup, restricted airflow or poor heat transfer. However, shutdown faults can have other causes that require replacement parts or further board-level diagnosis.

Common Symptoms

  • Overheating warning displayed

  • Console shuts down while gaming

  • Fan constantly runs at high speed

  • Fan is unusually noisy or not spinning

  • Very little airflow from the exhaust

  • Console becomes unstable during demanding games

  • Heavy dust buildup around the ventilation openings

Warm exhaust air is normal because the console is removing heat. Before booking, ensure the console has sufficient ventilation and isn’t enclosed inside a cabinet.

What This Service Includes

  • Initial inspection of the console

  • Full internal disassembly

  • Fan, heatsink and ventilation system cleaned

  • Internal dust thoroughly removed

  • Old thermal paste removed

  • Fresh high-quality thermal paste applied

  • Fan and internal connections inspected

  • Console reassembled

  • Temperature and functional testing

Important Diagnostic Information

This service is the first step in diagnosing an Xbox that overheats or unexpectedly shuts down.

Overheating can be caused by dust buildup, restricted airflow or deteriorated thermal paste. However, a console that shuts down may instead have a defective fan, damaged fan connector, temperature-sensing fault, power supply problem, power-delivery fault or another motherboard issue.

We cannot guarantee that cleaning the cooling system and replacing the thermal paste will resolve the shutdown fault.

After completing the service, we will test the console. If the problem remains, we will explain our findings and provide a quotation for any further diagnosis, replacement parts or board-level repair.

No additional chargeable work will be carried out without your approval.

Pricing

Initial overheating service and diagnosis: £50

The price covers disassembly, internal cleaning, dust removal, thermal paste replacement, reassembly and testing. This charge applies to the work completed, whether or not it resolves the original shutdown fault.

Replacement fans, power supplies, damaged cooling components, extended diagnostics and board-level repairs are not included and will be quoted separately.

Warranty

This service includes a 90-day workmanship warranty covering the cleaning, thermal paste application and related labour.

The warranty does not guarantee or cover an unresolved shutdown fault caused by an unidentified component, power supply or motherboard problem. It also excludes new dust buildup, blocked ventilation, physical damage, liquid damage and customer tampering.

Shipping and Identification

Customers are responsible for paying the cost of sending the console to us and creating their own shipping label.

Pack the console securely and send it to the repair address shown at the bottom of your invoice and in your order confirmation email. Include your name and order number inside the parcel so we can identify it quickly.
